Teacher's Guide for Double Luck
by Becky White

Discussion Questions and Activities - Epilogue

I am thankful each night when I curl up in my big soft bed,
and if I cannot sleep, I recite Confucius for comfort.

Pre-Epilogue Discussion Questions

1. Besides Chi Fa, which character in the book did you like best? Least?
2. What part of the book did you think was the saddest? Happiest? Most surprising?
3. What do you think Chi Fa is doing today? Would you like to find out?

Follow-Up Activity--A Double Luck Quilt

Cut colorful 8”- to 12”-squares from cotton--one for each student and the teacher(s). With fabric markers and/or puff paints, have each child illustrate a character or scene from the book. On one square that might be used as a center piece for the quilt, print the Confucius quote: “With coarse rice to eat, with water to drink, and my bended arm for a pillow--I have still joy in the midst of these things.” Use a sewing machine to sew the squares together quilt-fashion. When finished, hang the quilt for all to enjoy.
